School Excursions to

Melbourne

Melbourne

Melbourne offers all of the components of a comprehensive ‘big city experience’ for regional students of any age. Some interstate school groups travelling to the East Coast choose to stop-over in Melbourne en-route, including visits to Sovereign Hill and several Melbourne city attractions in their overall excursion itinerary.

Melbourne City Experience

A great way to orientate your students on arrival in Melbourne is to take a ride on the free City Circle Tram which will take you on an informative journey past many iconic Melbourne sites. Some of the other activities unique to Melbourne include a guided tour of the Old Melbourne Gaol, explore the Queen Victoria Markets, visit Eureka Skydeck 88 for spectacular day time or night time views over the city or take a guided tour at Federation Square.

For an authentic Melbourne experience, time your visit to include an AFL game or a theatre show. Many other venues and activities choices are available to include in your school excursion to Melbourne. Talk to our friendly team to discuss options and create your ideal Melbourne based itinerary.

Suitable school group accommodation choices range from budget dormitories with shared bathrooms through to inner city motels, all located within minutes of the major Melbourne attractions.

Exhibitions

Melbourne plays host to many specialist exhibitions suitable for senior history and art students. We have previously facilitated school group visits to the Tutankhamen Exhibition and The Wonders of Ancient Mesopotamia Exhibition.

Melbourne Cricket Ground

At the top of the list of iconic Melbourne experiences has to be a guided tour of the MCGincluding the interactive “Game On” zone in the National Sports Museum. The National Sports Museum is home to the Olympic Museum, Sport Australia Hall of Fame, Australian Cricket Hall of Fame, Australian Football Hall of Fame, Champions – Thoroughbred Racing Gallery and much more.

Schools have the opportunity to do a regular tour of the MCG or choose themed tours such as MCG: Sport and War and MCG: Sport and Art. A literacy program has been developed called Writing Sports and also an arts program called Drawing Sports where students tour the MCG and partake in either writing or drawing exercises. Usually, schools combine a tour of the MCG with a visit to the National Sports Museum (NSM).
